Yūgen - An Art Festival

Yugen Experience Connections and Conversations through Art. Yugen is a multidisciplinary experience of exploring expression through various art forms - Art, Poetry, Storytelling Music & Motion Arts. It is a Japanese word that roughly translates to an awareness of the universe that triggers emotional responses too deep and mysterious for words. Allow me to gently ask you, when was the last time you experienced a sentiment that was powerful beyond words? Yugen is an attempt to help you experience those sentiments that are lying hidden, unacknowledged and unattended. It is a celebration of being in touch with yourself through art. We are offering a day long retreat into discovering your hidden story through various workshops - The Day long retreat includes an exhibition - Yugen Yūgen is collaboration between an artist, Pooja Bhatt and a poet, Shweta Roy Chowdhury to jam and create a synesthesia of imagery, words and raw expression. The poetry has been inspired by the art pieces and vice versa to create a create a connection among two of the oldest forms of human expression. An interdisciplinary performance by few lovely dancers and musicians coming together to explore their Yugen. The projection mapping exhibition/installation with Karan and Kunal Workshops- 1. Yugen through Art by Abhimanyu Ghimiray An artist & an illustrator from India, who loves exploring new mediums & styles for illustrations, paintings and wall murals. He is a post Graduate in Animation & Film Design from National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. 2. Yugen though Storytelling by Prateek Roy Chowdhury Prateek grew up in pristine Arunachal Pradesh, introduced at a young age to a stories, myths and histories of the world, using them as time machines to travel across eras, as Prithviraj Chauhan one day, Bilbo Baggins another and Howard Roark for a while. He envisions a world where storytelling can be the means for an individual to walk into a space that is increasingly difficult for people to understand- themselves. And through stories, he hopes everyone he meets will discover something that is increasingly elusive to find- connection. He currently lives in Bangalore, trying to open doors where there are only walls- through stories. 3. Yugen through Motion Arts by Atul Kumar Atul is a UX Designer and the Artistic Director of a dance company, LFRD (Left Foot Right Danceworks), based out of Bangalore. Trained in Hip-hop, Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Yoga and Kalari movement forms, he has been practicing free movement research since 2010. His major area of work lies in animal flow-based improvisational tools and techniques, in relation to the body and somatic practices. Since 2013, he has trained with many Indian and International artists, while he traveled across the globe. He has been certified by California University of Arts in site-specific work creation, mentored by Stephen Koplowitz, in 2014. He has also worked with students from PARTS school, Brussels, in an exchange program. He was also one of the finalists for Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards (PECDA) 2016. The workshop is stitched around the elements of exploration of your own self through the medium of contemporary movement practices, inspired by few dance forms and animal movements. The idea is to reach a place of internal and external awareness so that one can be open to the observation, perception, and reaction to the surrounding and situations. 4. Yugen through Music by Ashok Kumar Ashok Kumar is an accomplished theatre actor and a professional Jembe player. His musical journey began with tabla and found fulfilment in the Jembe - an African drum. He is a true fusion musician having played with Carnatic, Hindustani and even dablled with electronica. In the fusion of arts, he has played with artist, BKS Varma who painted during his Jembe recital. The Attakalari Centre for Movement Arts has used his skill in the arena of dance. He has composed music for several plays including an India - Hong Kong Production called “Your Most Obediently”. He is now working on his dream project of world fusion music - Shoonya. Music (Jembe) is about discovery – finding your own rhythm when you are alone or when you are part of a group. This workshop is designed to use rhythm and music as a medium for discovering yourself.
