About this Event
This year, Copenhagen and Helsingborg are again joining in for the International Zouk day, 17th September 2016! It is a unique worldwide dance event, where cities and countries all over the world celebrate the beutifual dance Brazilian Zouk.
On 17th September we will perform a Zouk choreography by Alisson Rodrigues Sandi & Renata Popis. All over the world, people will perform the same choreography on International Zouk day. This choreography can be viewed here: http://internationalzouk.com/izd-2016-official-choreography/
To prepare for this day we will have weekly trainings in July and August where Caroline will teach you the choreography and prepare you for the performance. There will then be refresher courses in September. Everyone can join, whether you have been dancing Zouk for years or whether this is the first time you ever hear about it!
NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! If you want to dance and think this sounds like fun, that's all you need. All ages and backgrounds welcome!! If you can move your body, you can join :)

What is International Zouk day?
It is a unique worldwide dance event, where cities and countries all over the world celebrate Brazilian Zouk. During the summer, there is a chance to learn a choreography that we will then perform together as a flash mob throughout the city! On the 17th September there will also be workshops and a Zouk party, so save the date!

What is Brazilian Zouk?
Brazilian Zouk is a partner dance with flowing, expressive and sensual movements, and a focus on connection. The dance has evolved from Lambada, which in turn evolved from Carimbó, a dance originating in Northern Brazil. Carimbó was danced in colorful clothes, the men in open shirts and scarves around their waists, and the women in loose skirts, and was distinguished by circular and spinning movements, as well as the use of clapping hands as a way of inviting to dance and keeping energy levels high. With the mixing of Samba, Mergengue, Maxixe and other Caribbean dances, Carimbó turned into Lambada, characterized by its tight embrace and sexy hip movements. Lambada became a worldwide phenomenon, but like many trends, was a short-lived. It quickly began to become unpopular, and at that time the French Antillean music, Zouk, came to Brazil and people began to dance Lambada to Zouk music – and began to call this new fusion Zouk Lambada, and in short, Zouk.
Since then, Brazilian Zouk has been influenced by different styles and variations in music. Arabic songs, R&B, Hip Hop, Kizomba, Zouk, Pop and others give different interpretations to the dance.

What do I need to participate?
You need to sign up on www.zonendans.dk/tilmelding, and at the first practice on July 3rd we will form partners. You are welcome to bring a dance partner, but it is not required, we will help you find someone on July 3rd.
If you want to participate in the Flash Mob performance, you must join the rehearsals to learn the choreography. The training dates are listed above. If you miss a one training, it is ok, but to learn the choreography properly you should join as many training sessions as possible.

How much does it cost?
International Zouk Day is non-profit, so we try to keep costs for you at an absolute minimum. Of course, we need your help financially to make the day happen though, because there are expenses for studios, marketing, etc.
Participation in the performance (including all training sessions + party on the 10th September + workshops and party on IZD September 17th) is therefore 450 DKK.
If you have low income and find this amount too high but want to participate, write to [email protected] explaining your situation and we will try to find a solution.
