They reconnected through social media and discovered that they share the same nationality. Keeping each other updated with news of their respective dance scenes, and with her intention of heading homewards to Singapore, Max and Karen decided to collaborate as partners to spread their passion for Brazilian Zouk here together. About Max: Having been dancing various Latin dances such as Salsa and Bachata for over 10 years, Max has successfully fused his years of experience as a hip hop street dancer with his passion for Latin dance to bring together his own unique, sleek and groovy style that is recognized by the local and international Latin dance scenes. In 2013, after founding and falling in love with Brazilian Zouk, he began to train intensively in the dance and started teaching Zouk with the hope of growing the Zouk dance community in Singapore and Asia. He has also travelled around the world such as Czech Republic, Turkey, Netherlands, UK and France to dance Zouk and in particular to Brazil in 2015 to deepen his knowledge and understanding of the dance as well as getting to know the roots and culture of the Brazilians. Max has also been invited to teach at overseas festivals such as in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Besides Zouk, he is also accomplished salsa and bachata dancer having won numerous competitions. Some of his accolades include First runner up in the 2010 Asia Bachata Championship, Champion in the 2010 NTU/NBS Got Talent performing a Salsa piece and more recently Champion in the 2014 Asia Bachata Championship. About Karen: Karen, originally from Singapore, spent her last 3 years in New York City where she found and fell in love with Brazilian Zouk. She has learned and performed with Raw Zouk by Jeremey Adam Ray, Zouk New York by Kim Rottier, and Zen Zouk by Henri Velandia. She has also travelled to and lived in Brazil to study the dance intensively by practicing all the different styles of Zouk as well as getting to know the culture. Besides Zouk, she also took an interest to the vibrant Brazilian Ballroom dance, Samba de Gafiera. Karen has 14 years of experience in performing and competing, coming from a background of International Latin Ballroom, Cheerleading and Figure Skating. She won the amateur division of the 1st U.S.A Zouk Championships in the 2014 LA Zouk Congress, and 1st place in the 2014 ZoukEX Jack & Jill in Toronto, Canada. She also won 3rd place in the 2016 Rio International Zouk Congress Jack & Jill recently. Karen has taught and performed around Japan and South East Asia, including Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Let's Zouk! Max Ahmad Director Moni Dance
