Dear friends! After Berlin, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Paris and more, join now in NYC this unique meeting of 3 dance communities. We are creating and inventing together new artistic partner dance spaces:
- For Tango Loves Contact editions, Tango and Contact are a like wine and cheese: If you would mix it together you’d get an unappetizing paste, but tasting a little bit of one after the other is a wonderful alchemy. They are the only 2 partner dances in the world without a fixed rhythmic pattern. We’re inventing a freer and more authentically improvised way of dancing, embracing the true spirits of tango, and CI, to make it more inclusive and exciting for everyone.
- For Zouk Loves Tango editions, on the other side, the 2 dances have so many common points and are completing each other amazingly! (We are planning a brand new concept of 'Zouk Loves Contact' for 2026 ! We did a 1st edition in Paris with Jean-Martin and it was amazing)
🍃 Dear Tango dancers: Contact-improvisation dance will bring a new philosophy/energy in your tango. And releasing during the contact-dance moments interlacing between the Tango moments will liberates unique energies in your dance. Brazilian zouk has so much to offer, it is a rich dance with a musical repertoire that is both close to yours and varied! You will discover new bodily possibilities, a new way of exploring space and music, it will be very interesting on the zouk edition of PartyClassical!
🍃 Dear Contact dancers: You are by definition the best tango students ever. With your contact dance skills you will be surprised how Tango is just a very special way to dance contact. And it will bring you new mouvement inspirations in your contact-dance.
🍃 Dear Zoukers: They say that tango is the "classical dance" of ballroom dancing, so now is the time to discover or explore it! You will gain technical precision, expressiveness and musicality!
🍃 New to the 3 dances***? You’re warmly welcome to join us! Our fluid dance methods will help you learn both styles super quickly and enjoyably!
We will do everything to create a warm, open, accessible environment (like the early-bird price ^^) Price between $12 and $35.
(From 7:50PM on the 4th floor, studio 4R, and from 8:45PM on the 2nd floor, studio 2R) - Reserve very soon and get an earlybird price if you DM the event to 2 or 3 friends, or share it in a story or a post. - And, if you have experience in contact or either tango, you get a reduced price for the class if you help in the other class ❤
🎵🎵 Music & Sound Space: Expect a very eclectic, softer musical atmosphere with a focus on acoustic-sounding tracks—perfect for Contemporary Tango (in the style of La Mutante and similar Buenos Aires events that Alex helped pioneer), Contact-improvisation dance and Zouk ('Zouk-com-calma' São Paulo's style). Slower or faster tempos and styles alternate every few songs to keep variety flowing and naturally inviting dancers to explore different dance forms throughout the evening. Quiet conversations encouraged for a more intimate and powerful dance experience! ❤️💚
*️⃣ Please DM Alex if:
• You are, or know, a videographer, even amateur, interested in free tickets 🙏
• You’d like to volunteer to help with setup or teardown.
See you soon on the dance floor !
***Important Note for the Contact-improv dance: To help awareness on the dancefloor and empowering people to comunicate, you are encouraged to read the short guidelines, even though we will be discussing them in the introdution circle: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pSUJCh4n8BfRjmpkZ5PzdOmfzjLaVkxE7q8njXeGc5A

💜🔥 ALEX BARTHELEMY 🔥💜
After training tango with many tango pioneers*, and having helped expand Rioplatense tango in France as its youngest tango teacher, Alexandre Barthelemy later added contact improvisation, hosting very innovative dance socials in 8 countries on 3 continents, where tango and contact dancers meet and enrich each other.
(Cross-pollination between tango and contact improvisation deepens and evolve each practice. With contact improvisation cultivating muscular release, the simpler and more unhurried the tango walk, the deeper the partners’ connection and the greater their freedom in the improvisation)
In this way, he greatly helped ignite the alternative tango scene of Buenos Aires**, Paris and Berlin. He taught weekly during 2 years traditional and contemporary tango in Buenos Aires, and also contact-improvisation, and musicalized social dance evenings, for a young Argentine tango and contemporary dance crowd.
(**video and infos at alexbart.org/tango and instagram.com/alexbart_berlin )
(*trained by Pablo Veron, Teresa Cunha, Gustavo Naviera & Giselle Anne, Tete Rusconi & Silvia, Vincent Morelle & Marilyne Lefor, and many more)
Alex trained Contact-improv with Didier Silhol (Pioneer of CI in France). Before NYC, Alex have been teaching CI regularly in Berlin (together with the choregrapher Jasminka Stenz at Die Etage dance school), in Buenos Aires, and occasionally in France and Ukraine. He is also a multi-skilled artist.
