Zouk Workshops in Santa Fe

Join instructor Rachel Ashley and Santa Fe Zouk one Saturday a month for a fun, beginner-friendly, progressive, and community- building Brazilian Zouk Workshop Series! This progressive series of introductory workshops will cover the foundational elements for learning to be a compotent, creative, embodied, and joy-filled Brazilian Zouk dancer! Our goal with this workshop series is to help create a sustainable, kind, welcoming, fun, and community-centered group of Zouk dancers in the Santa Fe area! ________________________________ Details for Workshop: Date: Saturday, September 24th, 2022 Time: 1:30-4:30pm Workshop Breakdown: 1:30-2:30pm Brand New or Beginner Zouk dancers **This first hour will start at the beginning for those who are brand new to Zouk, those who want to review and practice their basics, or those who want to learn beginning foundations again from another role. We will cover the basic Zouk rhythm, frame, forward and back basic, lateral, and transitions between these steps. 2:30-4:30 Advancing Beginner Zouk Workshop **For these two hours, we ask that everyone joining has taken the first hour of this workshop or a prior workshop where they have learned the previously listed basics. The second two hours will build from these foundations! If you have never experienced this beautiful and mesmerizing dance, you are in for a treat! Brazilian Zouk, also known as "Zouk-Lambada," is a partner dance with origins in Lambada and traditionally danced to "Zouk" music made popular in the French Caribbean. Brazilian Zouk can be characterized by its smooth and flowing nature as well as its circular upper body movements, dramatic hair whips, dips, and magical connection. As this dance has evolved along with popular music and dance trends, you will now see various styles where partners may deviate from the traditional rhythm to allow for musical interpretation and enhanced partner connection. Brazilian Zouk can be danced to many musical genres including Hip-Hop, R&B, New Age, & Pop (to name a few), lending itself to be enjoyed by a wide range of dancers (or non-dancers) from all backgrounds!
