Zurich Zouk Jack and Jill Competition

www.zurichzoukcongress.com 4th Jack and Jill Competition Zurich Zouk Congress SUNDAY 28 October 2018 for amateurs Jack and Jill (J&J) is a format of competition in partner dancing, where the competing couples are the result of random matching of leaders and followers. J&J competitions are intended to test social dance skills, whereas fixed partner competitions test performance dance skills. ° Format of the competition J&J contest will have 2-3 eliminations rounds, depending on the quantity of registrations. Every participant will be given a new partner randomly prior to each round. They will be judged individually, not as couples. The dancers who will be selected for the next round will get a new parter randomly. ° Music Music for each dance is selected without the participants' prior knowledge. Each round will have 2 songs with maximun of 4 minutes total. ° Judging Criteria One of the key elements of a J&J contest is the element of improvisation. Try to dance in harmony with your new partner, while dancing to the specific characteristics of a random song or "express musicality". The judges will select the dancers by judging harmony, technique (leading/following, posture, figures etc.), musicality, improvisation, usage of space, rhythm, and creativity of the dance couple. The Zurich Zouk Jack and Jill Competition is not an official one of the Brazilian Zouk Council. We have some different rules (for example the participants will be judged individually, lifts are allowed, the judges will not give extra points nor punishment). We organize this competition in order to motivate and support the dancers to improve their social dancing skills. ° The Judges The judges will be the teachers of the Zurich Zouk Congress. ° Who can sign up Any amateur Zouk dancer, meaning who is not teaching/not professional, can participate at this competition. ° How to sign up Participants must purchase a Fullpass or Megapass of the Zurich Zouk Congress for participate at the competition. The dancers sign up alone, but every participant will bring a participant of the opposite gender (who will sign up him/herself as well) to ensure even leader/follower number. You can sign up when purchasing your Fullpass or at the congress latest: final registration will take place Sunday 28 October 2018 evening before the party at 8:30 pm. ° Place and Schedule Sunday 28 October, meeting point 8:30 pm SHARP: meeting of the participants for the Jack and Jill competition.
